Communication & Outreach

Our work in this program area embraces the power of communication and storytelling to engage people, build community, and advance our mission. We seek to tell the stories of all the projects the Fetzer Institute supports as well as create new stories of love and forgiveness with traditional and emerging media platforms.

Projects in this area generally fall into two categories of work:

Media Projects

We recognize storytelling as one of the most powerful means of sharing, engaging, and inspiring individuals and communities. We seek media projects that offer innovative approaches to sharing stories and we look for projects that will reach large numbers of people with messages of love, forgiveness, and compassion as well as projects that are tailored to a specific audience.

Individual & Community Transformation

In this program area, we seek to activate the capacity of people, individually and collectively, to love and forgive. We are dedicated to enhancing action and interaction that brings the power of love and forgiveness to the center of individual, organizational, and community life through our many partnerships.

We explore and support transformation through two interrelated areas of work:

Transforming Ourselves & Our Communities

We believe individual transformation and community transformation are inexorably linked and interdependent. Our goal here is to help people become world citizens and engaged leaders who cultivate skills and deepen and embody their capacity to express love and forgiveness in their relationships, and model these qualities in their inner and outer lives of service and work. Our current focus is on selected professions in the social sectors of higher education, business, and politics.

Transforming Our World

This area supports key individuals and organizations that are at the leading edge of conflict transformation and peacebuilding work. Our goal is to recognize, heal and transform an emerging global community by broadening the fields of global leadership and conflict transformation. We seek to deepen the inner, psychological, spiritual, and cultural dimensions of all the world's citizens.

Science & Spirituality

Scientific research and spiritual inquiry can lead to a deeper understanding of love and forgiveness. We explore the foundations of love and forgiveness through intentional, purposeful inquiry based on scientific methods, in-depth dialogue, and spiritual practice. Research

Visit our Research section to see a complete listing of projects and learn more about current scientific research supported by the Fetzer Institute. Generally, our research falls into one of three categories: Love and Forgiveness Research, Transformation Research, and Community Health and Wholeness. Here are a few of our projects:

Religious Traditions & Spiritual Pathways

Recognizing that religious and wisdom traditions are a rich source of teachings and practices on love and forgiveness, we research the teachings and practices of love and forgiveness across religious traditions, explore contemplative practices, and seek interfaith engagement.
