Susan R.
Komives is
Professor of
College Student
Affairs at the
University of
Maryland. She is
president of the
Council for the
Advancement
of Standards in
Higher Education (a 36 associationmember
consortium advancing
standards of practice and selfassessment,)
former president of
the American College Personnel
Association, a former vice president
for student development at
two colleges, and co-founder of
the National Clearinghouse for
Leadership Programs. She is lead
author of the Leadership Identity
Development model research and is
currently is co-principal investigator
of the Multi-institutional Study of
Leadership project, a 100 + campus
study of college student leadership
outcomes and campus practices that
contribute to those outcomes. Susan
was a member of the ensemble
that developed the Social Change
Model of Leadership Development.
She has authored and co-authored
several leadership books, chapters and articles. She earned her M.S.
and B.S. at Florida State University
and an Ed.D. from University of
Tennessee, Knoxville.
