Diane L. Dixon is Managing Principal of D. Dixon & Associates LLC, a small independent
consulting practice focused on leadership and organization development services primarily in the health care
and human services sectors. At times Diane collaborates and works with consulting firms/practices to provide
consulting services. She has over 25 years of experience in the field of human and organizational learning
focused on strategic change facilitation, leadership development, team development, education, and meeting
facilitation in organizations of all sizes and complexity. In this capacity she has worked with numerous
nonprofit boards on various stages of strategic planning. Diane has served on six nonprofit boards during
the course of her career.
As a professional faculty member at the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School, Diane has taught
leadership and organizational behavior for the Business of Medicine Program and worked on an academic
partnership with America’s Health Insurance Plans. She will teach leadership theory and practice in spring 2011.
Diane has contributed chapters to three books. Her most recent chapter “Organization Development in the
New Age of Health Care Reform” in the book Organization Development in Health Care: A Guide for Leaders
will be published in 2011. You can read her chapter on “Successfully Surviving Culture Change” in the book,
Culture Change in Long -Term Care. Another chapter titled “Perspectives on Leading Complex Healthcare Delivery Systems”
was published in the Business of Healthcare Book Series, Volume II by Praeger Perspectives. Diane wrote a
leadership column for eight years in Caring for the Ages, an official publication of the American Medical
Directors Association. Several articles have been published in practitioner publications such as Leadership Excellence,
Personal Excellence, and Hospitals and Health Networks E-Newsletter for Health Care Executives.
Numerous presentations have been given to a wide variety of organizations and groups. Some topics include
transformational leadership in health care delivery systems, leadership development for culture change in
long-term care, leading and managing change in healthcare, managing transitions post mergers, acquisitions,
and downsizing, strategies for developing effective leaders, building effective interdisciplinary teams,
managing across multiple organizational boundaries, transforming board leadership: the challenge and opportunity
of inclusion, the role of transformational leadership in the new age of health care reform and quality
improvement in the new age of health care reform: a leadership opportunity.
Diane holds a Doctorate in Education from the Executive Leadership in Human and Organizational Learning Program
(formerly Human Resource Development) at George Washington University (research focus-transformational leadership
and hospital chief executives); a Master of Education degree with a concentration in Administration from Loyola
College; and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Psychology from Howard University.
